The Terrace is a specialist home for ten adults who have moderate to severe learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs. It is one of four homes situated within the five acres of the Wycar Leys complex at Bilsthorpe and has views of the open countryside. Wycar Leys is within easy walking distance of local shops and amenities.

The Terrace Lounge

Service User accommodation in The Terrace comprises ten single rooms with TV points. All bedrooms are decorated to a high standard and in accordance with the wishes of the Service Users who live there.

The communal areas comprise a TV lounge, kitchen, dining room and small lounge on the ground floor. There are two shower rooms, bathrooms and three toilets. In addition, The Terrace has a large secure garden area with bedding plants, hanging baskets, trees and lawn. The Service Users currently living in The Terrace actively participate in the upkeep and design of the garden and all Terrace residents can access the garden area at any time they wish.

The Terrace Dining Room

We work with our Service Users to decide on the planning and delivery of care through a person-centred approach. This ensures that the needs, goals and aspirations - both long and short term - for each individual are met. Communication systems are effectively adapted to facilitate the inclusion of everybody who lives in The Terrace and, through regular discussions and decision-making, we endeavour to ensure that the service responds appropriately and promptly to any suggestions or concerns raised.

The home has its own people carrier and care team members work hard to help Service Users experience and enjoy equal access to local and wider community resources. If necessary, they act as the Service Users’ advocate to challenge discrimination and encourage and empower both staff and Service Users alike.

The Terrace Lounge

The ‘Essential Standards of Quality and Safety’ are the foundation upon which our service is based. On this foundation is a framework that ensures those who live in The Terrace are supported and cared for individually, in a person-centred way, promoting both consistency of care and each person’s freedom to choose.

Person-centred planning is a process of life planning for people, based around social inclusion and individual choice. The person-centred plan is flexible, can be changed as people change and always has the Service User’s wants or needs at its heart. Through a process of continual listening to and learning from the Service User, staff help to develop a person-centred plan that promotes social inclusion and empowers the individual. It enables each person to take ownership of his or her daily life, personalising the service and level of support provided rather than fitting into systems already in operation.

The Terrace Lounge

The staff team is an eclectic mix of individuals who have lots of life and work experience. Under the guidance of Home Manager Kimberley Bane, (who joined the company in 2008), the staff are committed to providing Service Users with opportunities to integrate into the local and wider communities, enabling them to meet new people and maintain relationships.

Activities are a huge part of life in The Terrace and the choice of activities is not restricted. Should a Service User wish to try an activity, we will go to great lengths to facilitate it through risk assessments and planning. The care team of The Terrace is committed to supporting the Service Users to live the life they choose, how they want to live it!
