The Lodge is a specialist service offering care and support for up to ten adults with a moderate to severe learning disability and complex needs.
It is one of four homes situated within the five acres of the Wycar Leys complex at Bilsthorpe. Wycar Leys is within easy walking distance of local shops and amenities and The Lodge has its own people carrier, which helps our Service Users to get out and about and access the wider community.
The Lodge is a large two storey brick building with its own secure patio and garden and overlooks open countryside. There are ten single bedrooms and the Service Users are encouraged to individualise their rooms, with every bedroom being decorated to reflect each Service User’s choices. There is a light, spacious lounge that overlooks The Lodge’s secure patio area and garden to the front of the building, as well as a smaller lounge on the first floor. A large kitchen and dining area has doors that open onto the patio and garden, an area our Service Users can access whenever they wish.
We aim to provide a friendly home that offers a quality service to our Service Users; a service that develops and changes as the people living at The Lodge develop and change. We believe everyone is an individual and has the right to develop to his or her fullest potential in an environment that is supportive, safe and encourages personal growth and development. Personal choice and involvement in decision-making are actively encouraged and, through the use of our person-centred approach, we do our best to ensure that we meet the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of everyone who lives at The Lodge.
Our Philosophy
The philosophy of The Lodge is based on our belief that all individuals, no matter what their disability, should have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else in society. We believe everyone has the right to expect respect, dignity, freedom of choice, social inclusion, personal fulfilment and the opportunity to grow, develop and try new things. As a consequence, we encourage our Service Users to participate in the planning and implementation of any change in their care, activities or environment. It is our aim to provide a service that meets the unique needs and circumstances of each person who has made their home with us.
Our Staff Team
The Lodge has a high ratio of staff to Service Users, which is dictated by the assessed needs of the Service Users. All the staff have achieved, or are working towards, their NVQ in care and all have had training and time invested in them. The Home Manager, Dave Copley, joined Wycar Leys in June 2008.
Wycar Leys provides a comprehensive training programme for all staff, including first aid, COSHH, fire training, health and safety and behaviour management. We believe this gives us the calibre of staff necessary to provide a caring and proficient service for the people who live at The Lodge.
We offer those who live at The Lodge a high quality service that focuses on their development, their choices and their fulfilment. We are committed to giving those who live with us a home that embraces the holistic approach to each individual: through person-centred planning, we focus on the individual to ensure that we can make a positive difference for people with a learning disability.
