Church View is a detached Victorian property on a quiet street in the bustling Stoneygate area of Leicester. The home provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for eight people who have a learning disability, challenging behaviours and complex needs.
A large entrance and hallway lead to two spacious lounges, large dining room, conservatory, toilet, kitchen and utility room. All eight bedrooms have good quality furnishings and an en suite shower room or bathroom. All rooms are decorated in neutral colours and Service Users are encouraged to personalise them, making the rooms their own. All bedrooms comply with the Care Standards Act regulations with regard to size, as does the remainder of the property.
To the front side and rear of Church View is a block-paved garden with trees and plant beds. The garden offers extra space in which Service Users can relax, especially in the spring and summer months. There is a small summer house within the garden, together with tables and chairs where, in fair weather, Service Users can have their meals or just a snack, should they wish.
The internal environment of Church View is of an exceptional standard. From the moment you enter the door its large entrance hall offers a welcoming, homely feel, making the home feel like a nice place to be. The two spacious lounges are comfortably furnished and let in plenty of natural light, making the rooms bright and welcoming. The space provided within Church View is designed to give each Service User the room to feel at home, where their privacy is respected, whilst also giving them the opportunity to meet and interact with others, should they wish.
The kitchen is designed to provide a safe, functional and welcoming environment that enables Service Users to maintain their existing living skills and develop new ones. If they wish to prepare and cook their own meals, with support, assistance is provided on an individual needs basis.
Individual Approach and Commitment : Home Manager’s Vision:
I joined the company in February 2010 to establish and manage Church View. Leadership cannot be effective if a manager does not have a vision to work towards. Mine is as follows:
- To implement and facilitate individual care that empowers Service Users to achieve their choices and maximise their independence.
- To provide a safe, happy and stimulating environment, ensuring the interests of Service Users are paramount in their home.
- To ensure that Service Users are treated with respect and dignity and to provide activities of their choice which enable positive experiences and promote new skills that will enhance their lives.
- To build, guide and support a staff team which is professional, competent and happy within their working environment.
- To create and maintain a culture that inspires all to commit fully to their roles and to provide learning opportunities for staff to enhance their knowledge and skills.

The areas I have worked in are varied, covering supported living, respite onto residential and day care services. I hold an NVQ III qualification in Care and I hold a passion for working with individuals who are diagnosed on the autistic spectrum.
